Audit Co-op (Scotiabank)







CO OP Audit Student

WORK TERM: 4 months, Spring Co-op Placement (September 2013 - December 2013)
LOCATION: Downtown Toronto

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Scotiabank Audit Department provides enterprise-wide independent assurance over the design and operation the Scotiabank Group's controls and operational processes and provides advisory services designed to improve the Group's operations. Together with the Security & Investigation unit, the Department is staffed with over 480 seasoned professionals in Canada and at several international locations.

The Co-op Student will work with the Audit group to which he/she is assigned, as part of a team, on specific audits and projects to evaluate and repot on the design and operating effectiveness of key controls.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR THIS ROLE INCLUDE:
· Plan audits by obtaining intelligence and information relating to the units/processes to be audited
· Execute (and if necessary, develop) detailed audit steps to evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of key controls
· Validate exceptions and findings identified in executing the detailed audit steps
· Document work papers and reporting to management
· Assist in other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Strong accounting and/or business focus or background with a desire to peruse an accounting designation.
· Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Access databases.
· The successful candidate will have the ability to apply his/her understanding of accounting standards and principles.
· Possess good judgmental and time management skills.
· Fluency in English is essential
· Strong verbal communication skills.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
· Working knowledge of Spanish is an asset but NOT required.
· An interest in developing technical skills may prove helpful but would not be considered a "must."
· Database technologies knowledge is an asset.
· Some knowledge of networking and communications is an asset.
· Electronic (Web) publishing of reports is an asset.
