Job Description:

The Wingham Office of BDO Canada LLP has an immediate opening for a full-time Staff Accountant.

Qualified candidates will be responsible for providing Auditing and Assurance services to clients in the Wingham area. The successful candidate will be offered challenging opportunities and enriching client exposure in a variety of industries. We are seeking an individual that has demonstrated abilities to work within a confidential environment, are flexible and adaptable to multiple requirements of the role, and are comfortable working independently as well as in a team.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for carrying out Assurance & Accounting engagements and projects (may include preparation of statutory accounts, due diligence, capital raising, and tax returns) according to Firm and regulatory standards for clients in a variety of businesses and non-profit enterprises.
  • Provide assistance to seniors in preparation for the engagement, including preparing and mailing confirmations, gathering the prior year's files, preparing client package, etc.
  • Effective communication with our clients, with government agencies and with our partners and staff.
  • Responsible for preparation of audit and accounting file, including gathering all pertinent information for the notes to financial statements and draft relevant notes.
  • Complete additional projects or related duties as required.
Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year experience (may include co-op experience) with a public accounting firm.
  • University degree or College Diploma in accounting or business with an accounting major.
  • Pursuing or have obtained a professional designation (CA, CMA or CGA).
  • Strong accounting and auditing skills acquired through a minimum of one year of experience in a Public Accounting Practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to prioritize with the flexibility to manage workload demands and multiple tasks and deadlines as required.
  • Good working knowledge of computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word).
  • Good working knowledge of TaxPrep and CaseWare/Caseview is a definite asset.
  • Willing to travel up to a maximum of 35% of the time to other offices and/or client sites; frequency depends on client and/or business needs.
